@noknot

Sadly to say: Most of the time the 24 char disk failure id indicates the HDD is failing and it needs to be replaced.. Is it still under warranty ? If NOT, you have to replace yourself then rebuild your machine.

Then use the following guide to create installation media:

     https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

You then use installation media to install Windows 10. During the installation process if you are asked to enter a product key, check the 'Skip' box and W10 will install and then automatically activate once you are connected to the internet using the key embedded in BIOS of your machine.

After that you can install the drivers and available software you need from your PC's support page. Normally few Windows 10 updates can install nearly all drivers for you.

Regards.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. unfortunately, no, the warranty is long gone. Really just need to recover the personal data but that looks complicated for a novice and expensive for a shop.

Would their be any point in trying to reinstall windows?

Although the hard drive won't boot, it is highly probable that you can slave the hard drive to a working PC and retrieve your data.

To do this, you need to :

1.  remove the hard drive which is very easy to do on a desktop PC

2.  connect hard drive using USB-to-SATA adapter cable to another working PC

USB-to-SATA adapter cable with power such as https://www.amazon.com/Benfei-Adapter-Compatible-Optical-Support/dp/B07JGT17B8/

.
