Hi @mjohanns11,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Let's tackle that "Disk Read Verify Test FAILED" error. Here are some steps you can try:

Step 1: Restart Your Laptop Sometimes a simple restart can resolve temporary read errors.

Step 2: Run CHKDSK (Check Disk) Open Command Prompt as Administrator. Search for CMD, right-click, and select "Run as Administrator". Type the following command and press Enter: chkdsk /f /r

If prompted, type Y and press Enter to schedule the scan on the next restart. Restart your laptop and let the scan complete.

Step 3: Use HP Hardware Diagnostics Turn off your laptop. Press Esc repeatedly while turning it on. Select F2 (System Diagnostics) and run a Hard Drive Test under Component Tests. If the test fails, your SSD/HDD may need to be replaced.

Step 4: Check Disk Health Using SMART Data Open Command Prompt as Administrator and type: wmic diskdrive get status

If it shows "OK", the drive is fine. If it shows "Caution" or "Bad", your drive is failing.

Step 5: Reinstall Windows (Last Resort) If the issue persists, back up your data and perform a Windows reset or clean install.

For more detailed information, refer to the HP Support Document on Hard Drive Issues and Diagnostics.

If the drive keeps failing tests, it might be time for a replacement.
