Hi everyone
I need to transfer all my data from HP G62 to HP Pavilion 15, all my data is very important and I don't need to lose any bit.
I am trying to transfer the data via LAN m but the problem is that I have a message "Too long path " and after searching I found that it is over 300 path, also I need to keep all the NTFS permissions copied.
a colleague recommended me Robocopy but I found that it can't copy the share permissions and has an issue with the long pathnames!
any help would be appreciated

First thing you need to understand is that you are NOT going to be able to transfer all your file system permissions. Why? Because even though you might have created the same login on both PCs, the name you are using only means something to YOU. The OS itself uses an encoded name in place of the one you are providing and that name is not visible to you.
What this means is that the two sets of files have completely different owners and that can not be transferred from one PC to another.
The long path name problem is not easily solved -- as you have to manually shorten the paths and that is a lot of work.
The problem is primarily due to the folders in which your data is being stored and your trying to copy data from one set of user folders to another. If you create a file system with a different upper folder name on a USB stick, copy the file you need there, and then copy from the USB stick to the new PC, that should work.

@WAWood
thanks for the clarification, shorten over 300 paths is not an option for me, every path should copy as it.
I have permissions on many folders because not only one person will use the new machine , also there are some folders shared on the old machine and we can access it via local network ..
thanks

OK, thanks for the info. Sounds like you have a LOT of work cut out for you, as I know of no way to migrate all those permissions in a quick or easy fashion.
