AMD USB 3.0 Extensible Host Controller 0100 (Microsoft) Code 28

May old hard drive went bad, so this is a fresh windows 7 pro install. I loaded the Chipset and all other drivers. This mention USB Controller is the last one that will not install. I know for a fact it is the USB 3 Extenstible driver because I used to have it in Device Manger with my old drive. Besides the two back bottom USB (Blue) connections don't work.

I did download the HP assistance but not sure how to engage it to look for the missing driver?

Does it just do it majically or do I need to ask it to look for it?

Thank you for your Help.

Andy

@AndyKdeiss, Thanks for your response and time.

Thanks for trying out the steps.

As you mentioned the USB controller driver will not install on your PC.

First, try updating the BIOS, chipset driver on your PC and then install the AMD USB controller driver.

Please update the drivers from the link below.

BIOS update link.

Link to update AMD chipset drivers.

Finally, install the AMD USB controller driver using this link.

If you are using HP support assistant go to My PC window, Select updates from the list.

It should find and install the best drivers for your PC.

Let me know if this works!

Have a great day ahead! :)

MrRobot:

I tried the Bos update but after I reeboot it gives an error message : Unable to open the image file" It fails to update the Bios.

Also the when I try the Link to update AMD chipset drivers, I get
" Your system does not meet the minimum requirements for this update. Update has been cancelled (9996)

I do have win7 pro with 64bit and 4 GB of ram and .net is installed.

Now what?

Hi! @AndyKdeiss, Thanks for your response and time.

Thanks for trying out the steps.

As you mentioned you are unable to update BIOS on your PC.

I would suggest please reinstall the operating system using the recovery discs and check if the issue persists.

If you don't have a set of recovery discs, please contact HP for support options.

Link to contact HP.

Have a great day ahead! :)

@AndyKdeiss

It looks like you were interacting with @MrRobot, but he's out for the day

And I'll be glad to help you out.

I helped Batman decipher the Riddler in the 80s,

And now I'm here to help, you: ;)

I understand you've reinstalled the windows using the "official windows 7 pro cd", however, HP doesn't recommend or support using a retail version of the windows OS,

What MrRobot was trying to convey is that HP wants you to use the HP supplied windows to resolve this concern, if you are like me and need reasons before implementing suggestions, here's why:

Unlike the windows 7 pro or in other words the Retail version of windows, the HP Recovery media contains the software and the drivers that make your computer work flawlessly.

Here's the link that showcases how to use the recovery media: Click here

If you don't have one in possession, you can order it via HP: Click here for the details.

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.
