It was noticed shortly after 2 small HP software updates were installed a few days ago that Support Assistant is telling me my battery needs to be calibrated. This laptop is only about 3 months old and there were no issues or reported problems before that. The testing logs all reported normal battery info and and that all was well. I can't say that the 2 unknown updates were responsible, but it's odd that all was good before that time.

The trouble is that no matter what I try, the battery will not calibrate. I have followed all the methods supplied by HP on this matter to no avail. I have tried resolving this using the methods through Support Assistant, HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows, the pre-boot UEFI diagnostics and even the old general way of running the battery down until shutdown and then recharging. Checking with any of the battery tests afterwards keeps showing me that that the calibration still needs to be done with a possible error code of "20"? I am out of ideas to resolve this. The battery seems fine, but I, for one, am really annoyed about error codes, especially on a new piece of equipment!

Has anyone else run into this issue and were you able to find a solution? BTW, I even uninstalled and reinstalled HP Support Assistant based on someone in here stating that that solved their same problem, but that didn't help me either.

For those that come back and read this thread, this was finally resolved, but not easily! After a phone consultation with an HP tech, they decided to send me a new battery. Everything seemed fine for about 3 days and then I started getting a bad battery warning. The next day, my laptop actually started reporting that there was NO battery installed! Again consulting technicians, the laptop was sent to HP (3 months old and still under warranty) and I recieved it back in just a few days. The culprit? The second battery was also bad! Seems to mostly be fine, hardware-wise now, but having a few software glitches I'm trying to sort out. But at least it has a battery again!

Well, as of this morning, 85 have read this post, but no advice. Maybe no one has any at this point. Come on HP! Please help me out here. This laptop is only a few months old and it shouldn't be this way!

I have even gone so far now as to do what some have done and drained the battery and as per instructions, I'm supposed to disconnect the battery internally and press on the power switch to make sure the system is fully drained. Now the problem is that after removing all of the back panel screws, the panel will not come loose and lift off. Something is still holding it down in the center aspect, like maybe a sticky pad or heat sink pad? I don't want to place much more strain on the panel's removal for fear of snapping the panel itself. Any advice here? What's holding it on so tight and how do I get to the innards safely? I was considering adding a second M.2 drive, but can't do that either if I can't get in! My previous old Lenovo IdeaPad gave me almost full access by a small panel on the back. HP definately does not want me in here, I guess.
