HP Pavilion 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop
Microsoft Windows 11

Camera App error code 0xA00F4244,

After updating my HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-ec2008AX to Windows 11 24H2, the inbuilt HP TrueVision HD camera has stopped working completely.

I have already tried:

Resetting the Camera app

Updating/reinstalling the driver in Device Manager

Checking optional driver updates in Windows Update

Running HP Support Assistant

Microsoft Support confirmed this is a driver compatibility issue because HP has not yet provided an updated driver for Windows 11 24H2.

This is an urgent requirement, as I need the webcam for work and online meetings. Could HP please provide an updated driver or an immediate workaround as soon as possible?

HI @abishek1_011,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop camera stopped working after upgrading to Windows 11 24H2, showing error code 0xA00F4244, and no updated HP TrueVision HD camera driver is available. Let’s go through a few steps and possible workarounds while HP works on releasing a compatible driver.

Confirm Camera Visibility in Device Manager

Press Win + X → Device Manager → Cameras / Imaging Devices.

If the camera is missing, check under Other Devices for “Unknown device.”

Enable Camera from BIOS

Restart the laptop, press Esc repeatedly → Enter BIOS (F10).

Look for System Configuration → Built-in Device Options → Integrated Camera.

Ensure it is enabled.

Uninstall and Scan for Hardware Changes

In Device Manager, right-click the camera (or Unknown Device) → Uninstall.

Restart the system, then click Action → Scan for Hardware changes.

Try Generic Microsoft Driver

Right-click the camera in Device Manager → Update driver → Browse my computer → Let me pick → USB Video Device.

This installs Microsoft’s default camera driver, which often works as a temporary fix.

Rollback to Windows 11 23H2 (if urgent)

If the webcam is critical for work, consider rolling back to the previous stable version until HP releases the driver.

Settings → System → Recovery → Go back.

Use an External USB Webcam (Temporary)

While waiting for the official driver, a plug-and-play external webcam ensures you can continue work and meetings without interruption.

Stay Updated via HP Support

Open HP Support Assistant regularly to check for driver updates.

You can also monitor your model’s HP Drivers & Downloads page for new releases.

I hope this helps.

Hi @abishek1_011,

Thank you for getting back to us and sharing the screenshots. I completely understand how frustrating it is to have your webcam not working, especially when it’s essential for meetings. Let’s try a few more steps and I’ll also share the best next actions while we wait for HP to release the compatible driver for Windows 11 24H2.

Check Camera Visibility in Device Manager Again

Press Win + X → Device Manager → View → Show hidden devices.

Look under Cameras / Imaging Devices or Other Devices.

If the webcam appears as an Unknown Device or with a yellow triangle, right-click → Uninstall device, then restart your PC.

Force Microsoft Generic Driver

In Device Manager → right-click the camera (or unknown device) → Update driver → Browse my computer → Let me pick from a list → USB Video Device.

This installs Microsoft’s default driver, which often restores basic functionality.

Re-enable Camera in BIOS

Restart the laptop → tap Esc → press F10 to enter BIOS.

Navigate to System Configuration → Built-in Device Options → Integrated Camera and ensure it’s Enabled.

Save changes and restart.

Consider an External USB Webcam (Interim Solution)
To avoid work disruption, you can connect a plug-and-play USB webcam until the official driver is released.

I hope this helps.
