HP EliteBook x360 1030 G3
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

according to the pen specs, it is compatible with the EliteBook x360 1030 G3,

however in the Microsoft Store, the HP Pen Control app page tells me "This app is not compatible with this device".

The pen works fine, both the top button and the 2 side buttons. I just cannot change the functions without the Pen Control app, so they're stuck on Right-Click and Erase.

Is there a solution to this or an alternative place, where I could download the software?

I tried googling, but nothing came up.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

You could try this

TITLE: HP Pen Control

VERSION: 2.0.0.26 REV: A PASS: 1

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp82001-82500/sp82491.exe

Hope it helps,

David

Hmmmmm... False positive or HP exploring new opportunities?

Hi,

I would say a false positive, but you never know 🙂

I have let the HP support team know, so let us see what they say.

Maybe Expert @Paul_Tikkanen  has some idea?

Hi:

I downloaded the file and used 7-Zip to extract the file.

I didn't even get to do anything when Windows defender reported a virus threat.

When I click to find more info, I got the same severe threat message of the Trojan

I don't know what to make of it, so I would err on the side of caution.

What I did was look up the sp82491 file on the HP FTP site and it superceded sp80343.

I downloaded sp80343 and scanned it as I did with sp82491 and got no virus warnings.

So, maybe you will want to give that file a try instead...

Hey,

It's a false positive by Microsoft - actually quite a frequent and common one -> check in Google for various scenarios for Vigorf.A detections -> https://www.google.com/search?source=hp&ei=k6rEXLKuC-6urgTY17uIAw&q=vigorf.a+false+positive&oq=Vigor...

You may want to submit to Microsoft for test and remediation - for fixing the false positive alarm on their end -> here is how to do it -> https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/wdsi/filesubmission

Note that Microsoft are usually slow to react on false positives.

I just scanned the file on VirusTotal - a Google service which can scan with 50+ updated antivirus engines and it's only Microsoft detecting this file as a threat. Here are the results >> https://www.virustotal.com/#/file/82889b242d644136936603242eb4ed4a6dafb2ef67854bab6ae559a5fc91a8e4/d...

Possible solution for the problem is to :

1. Temporary disable Windows Defender real-time scanner

2. Open WD settings to Exclude the sp82491.exe file in Windows Defender and the folder C:\SWSetup\

3. Run the file, complete the installation

4. Re-enable Windows Defender

Thanks for your responses guys! Good to hear, that's it's a false positive.

However the Pen Control issue is still there. The panel looks like this:

PenControl.png

And changing settings, doesn't change them on the pen (bluetooth paired&connected).

In the tutorial video ( https://youtu.be/h5R8GoPceCE?t=20 ), the panel looks completely different and displays the correct pen. And the link in the comments leads to this tutorial ( https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c05478395 ), which puts me back in the beginning again.

Bump, does anyone have access to the correct Elitebook software?

Hi,

The HP Pen Control app is intended for other HP products, not for your pen:

This application allows customization of buttons for HP Pen models (1MR94AA, Y0C43AV, and 1CP24AV).

I assume the Pen Settings app should be the correct one to use, as the video shows.

Does it show your pen once paired? do you see any similar buttons or may include a screen shot of the screen shown for Pen Settings app with your pen paired?

Thanks for you reply. The pen is paired in BT Settings

But in Pen Settings, I only see the settings for the BT Button, not the 2 Side-buttons. The settings look like this:
