I didnt use my laptop for around a year, now it wont cut on and the adapter light is only on for a second. I did the hold power button for 15 sec thing and the reboot screen flashed for a second and cut back off.

Hi @Lebronobamakiss,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like there could be several potential issues causing your HP laptop not to turn on properly. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Check the power adapter: Ensure that the power adapter is properly plugged into both the laptop and the power outlet. Try using a different power outlet to rule out issues with the outlet itself. Also, inspect the power adapter for any signs of damage or wear.
  • Inspect the battery: If your laptop has a removable battery, try removing it and then reinserting it. If the battery is non-removable, skip this step. Sometimes, a faulty battery can prevent the laptop from turning on.
  • Reset the power settings: Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if removable). Press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds to drain any residual power from the laptop. Then reconnect the power adapter (leave the battery out) and try turning on the laptop again.
  • Check for hardware issues: If the above steps don't work, there may be hardware issues such as a faulty power button, motherboard problem, or other internal component failure.
  • Try a different power adapter: If possible, try using a different compatible power adapter to see if the issue is with the adapter itself.
  • Perform a hard reset: If your laptop has a removable battery, remove it. Then, disconnect the power adapter and hold down the power button for about 30 seconds. After that, reconnect the power adapter (without the battery) and try turning on the laptop.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
