HP 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17-c1000 (4B770AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I recently purchased a refurbished laptop from a reliable third-party website for students, but it runs very slowly. I experience severe lag when opening applications and particularly when scrolling or clicking anything, to the point where the laptop is almost unusable. There are occasionally a few moments where everything runs as it should, but the laptop goes back to lagging after about two minutes of reliable performance. From what I've used so far, audio works perfectly, it's just that the laptop is extremely slow to respond when I click, type, or scroll.

This is my first laptop, so I don't know if this problem will resolve itself with time, or if I need to do something about it myself. I've already followed a few tips online, such as setting my computer to best performance instead of best battery life and turning off transparency effects and animations. I don't know if it's Windows 11 that's the issue or if it's the laptop itself, whether that is the processor or something else. The processor I have is 11th Gen Intel Core i5-1155G7, and I have 12 G of RAM.

Is there anything I can do about this?

Updating the BIOS is recommended as standard maintenance of the computer. It can also help resolve the following issues:

  • An available BIOS update resolves a specific issue or improves computer performance.
  • The current BIOS does not support a hardware component or a Windows upgrade.
  • HP Support recommends installing a specific BIOS update.
