My son dropped our laptop and it appeared as though he just broke a clip on the battery but after replacing the battery the screen stays black and when i finally figured out how to do a diagnostic on the hard drive this is the code it read. Failure ID: GLM46X-874B9P-XD7X7G-60Q903. Do i need to take it to someone and have the hard drive replaced or is there something i can do?

Yes, dropping a notebook with a mechanical hard drive usually wrecks the hard drive.
You will need to have the hard drive replaced and the operating system reinstalled.
Below is the link to the service manual where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure.
You may want to consider replacing the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a better performing 2.5" solid state drive (SSD).
After you replace the drive, you can use the HP cloud recovery tool on another PC running W7 64 bit or newer to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with the notebook,
Here is an info link for how to use the utility. You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive for this.
