OMEN Laptop - 15-ek0013dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My 2020 Omen 15 has an issue the fan does not speed up until I "remind it" by interacting with the controls on the Omen Gaming Hub. This can be very annoying because I'll be playing a game and CPU will start to throttle because it gets too hot. I have to switch to the Omen Gaming Hub and switch the settings around for it to kick into gear.

Here is a video of it happening: Omen Fan Bug - YouTube

I have no pending Windows updates, and I am on the latest BIOS (released September 9, 2021). This is not a new issue; it might have even happened as soon as I got the laptop, but I can't remember. This happens almost every time I play games. I'm not sure what causes it.

Welcome to the HP Support Community! I'd like to help!

I see you are experiencing Fan issues with the HP OMEN Laptop.

I have a few recommendations

  • Uninstall and then Install the OMEN Gaming Hub app from the Microsoft Store.
  • Make sure the Windows and HP support assistant updates are up to date.
  • Try doing Reset PC Keep my files inside windows and check if it works.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried the first two steps, but the problem is still here. I hesitate to reset Windows because reinstalling all my programs would be a big hassle, and I don't know that it will make a difference. I had this laptop replaced a while ago, and the new unit as well as the old has this issue. If replacing the entire computer makes no difference, I am skeptical about replacing the operating system.

Have other users resolved similar issues by resetting their OS? Are there any other less invasive processes I could try before resetting?

Thanks

@MDiFranco,

Thank you for responding, I appreciate your time and effort.

I have a few recommendations

  • Check for any updates on the OMEN Gaming Hub app.
  • Check if the PC overheats and shutdown while playing games
  • Reset PC Keep my files has fixed this issue on most on the Omen PC.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
