I have a HP Spectre x360 2 in 1 Laptop, running Win 11, OS build 22631.4541. The provided pen part number M23864-001 worked originally, now it does not. The solid orange ring at the top indicates it is charging. There is no colour change after 2-3 hours.

HI @DrFarid97,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The issue with the HP Spectre x360's pen not working and displaying a solid orange ring (indicating charging) without any change could result from several potential causes. Here are some steps to diagnose and resolve the problem.
Check the Pen's Battery:
- The solid orange light indicates charging, but it may not be holding a charge. After 2-3 hours of charging, the light should change to white or green (fully charged). If it doesn't:
- Try a different charger or charging cable to rule out issues with the charging source.
- Check the charging port on the pen for any debris or damage.
Restart the Pen and Laptop:
- Restart the pen: Press and hold the top button for 10 seconds to reset it.
- Restart your laptop and ensure no pending updates could affect pen functionality.
Reconnect the Pen:
- Remove and re-pair the pen via Bluetooth Settings:
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices.
- Look for the pen (if listed) and remove it.
- Hold down the pairing button on the pen until the LED flashes to reconnect it.
Test the Pen on Another Device:
- If possible, test the pen on another HP device compatible with it. This helps confirm if the issue lies with the pen or the laptop.
Update Drivers and Firmware:
- Run Windows Update:
- Go to Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
- Update drivers:
- Visit the HP support website and download the latest drivers for your model.
- Look for updates specifically for the touch screen and pen drivers.
Test the Laptop's Touchscreen:
- Confirm the touchscreen functionality works without the pen:
- Use your finger to interact with the touchscreen.
- If the screen is unresponsive, update the touch drivers.
Reset Windows Ink Settings:
- Open Settings > Devices > Pen & Windows Ink.
- Adjust settings to default and ensure pen input is enabled.
Factory Reset the Pen:
- Refer to the user manual for a factory reset of the pen. Typically, holding a combination of buttons (e.g., the top button and the side button) for a specified duration resets it.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
