Hi there. I saw on teletext news today that HP macines had been found with Key Logging software installed which was a potential security risk. Apparently HP has/will be releasing a software update t remove the software
Does anybody know how to get the update or have a link to it?

Hi,
I believe the update is configured as a silent installation - you can check it's been updated as follows.
Hold down the Windows key and press R
Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter.
In Device Manager, expand Mice and other pointing devices.
Right click the Synaptics device listed here and select Properties.
In the subsequent window, select the Driver tab - the Driver version listed should now be 19.3.31.31

Hi and thanks for that.
The problem is when I look at my product, as detailed on the HP Support assistant on my PC the product just says "HP Envy 15 Notebook PC" along with a serial number and a product number of "J2E80EA#ABU". I am having trouble relating this product to the model numbers listed in the bulletin.
Sorry if Im being a bit dense.....

Hi,
No problem
The update you require is on the following link.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp81501-82000/sp81891.exe
After this has been installed, restart the notebook.

Downloaded and installed and as far as I can tell has worked ok. I didnt get the usual installation shield. I just agreed the update and it showed the progress bar running then no feedback. I waited a few minutes then re statrted and PC took a little longer to re boot with no issues. So I guess it has been removed!

I checked for the silent installation as stated and the driver on my HP Pavilion Notebook 15-ab291sa hadn't been updated from 19 3 11 37 to 19 3 31 31. This piece of information stating what the version should be was very useful as it confirmed that pro active action was required on my part. I downloaded the file from the link provided and installed the update. I then rebooted and re checked in Device Manager and job done.
Just hoping that this fix will be sufficiently rigourous to protect all those PCs out there that have been affected by this disconcerting and worrying issue.
