Cannot get any HP updates because the website show my OS as win 10 when it is actually win 11. Did a system reset but that did no good. Am I going to have to do a complete reinstall to fix this problem?

am pretty sure that the problem is actually on HP"s update website. I say this because today I downloaded the latest HP Support Assitant and it shows all the proper info for my laptop. I even downloaded two new updates that I could not get from HP' s website. SoI guess I will stick with this for a while and see how it goes. Thanks for your assistance.

Welcome to our HP User Forum!
I see what you mean. Looking at your HP Notebook - 15-dw0083wm (1A493UA) specs (Maintenance and Service Guide HP 15 Laptop PC), and, assuming your laptop is fitted with one of the 8th gen Intel processors, such as the i7-8565U -which is W11 compatible as of 10/17/2022: Details of Intel Core i7-8565U (eatyourbytes.com), one would expect to find "Windows 11" as one of the OS options here: HP Notebook - 15-dw0083wm Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Customer Support:
This presents a problem -HP apparently is not supporting W11 on your legacy notebook.
This is, not surprisingly, how all laptop manufacturers (including Dell and Lenovo) roll.
Don't know what to tell you. Downgrading to W10 is an option, albeit far from ideal...

Thanks for your reply. I don't understand how this happened. The laptop came new with win 11 and everything has worked just fine until now. Normal operation and Windows Update have been fine since new (at least 2-3 yrs.) . I have always used HP products, maybe it is time for a change. I tried a system reset but the problem is still there. Do you think a clean reinstall of windows would do the trick? I'm thinking that would be the next step.

Are you talking about a fresh W11 reinstall? You can certainly try. Easiest way to do this, would be to create a bootable Windows 11 USB flash drive as shown in this nicely done YouTube video: (11) Make a Bootable Windows 10 or 11 USB for Free - YouTube.
If your problems persist after trying this, create a bootable W10 USB stick.
Please be reminded that a fresh Windows install will wipe your drive.
