HP EliteBook 840 G3 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi there
My hp elitebookg 840 G3 pc screen started turning black after sleep for some reason. Thinking this is a driver issue I reinstalled the driver from hp website but still caused the same issue. So I decided to format my windows and install fresh windows. After the installation I got into the same issue, after searching online for solutions the solution that seemed to work was going to power and sleep and setting the screen off time to never, which is a not so good solution.

But my real issues came when I tried to install the graphics driver. After installation it waits about 5seconds then it turns black . I have to force shutdown the pc then go to safe mode and reset to microsoft basic display driver. But since this is not a permanent solution it is giving me a headache as most of my softwares that I run require correct graphics driver.

Solutions I have tried so far :

1. Installing older and newer versions of windows

2. Running hp support assistant, but for some weird case in the list of drivers to update or install , it doesn't show the display driver to be installed

3. Updating the bios

4. Letting windows install the driver itself
But all seem to yield the same result

Apparently after I removed the graphics driver using DDU in safemode and installing the latest 6th gen 520 intel graphics it showed the same symptoms. However after I went to the bios and disabled deepsleep and extended idle states options it worked!!

Hi:

The only suggestion I can offer would be to try the last driver that Intel released for the HD 520:

Intel® 6th-10th Gen Processor Graphics - Windows

Let me know if the auto install doesn't work and I will give you the instructions to manually install the driver.

Hi paul thanks for your response .
I downloaded and installed the gfx_win_101.2115 version as it the latest  gfx_win_101.2121 didn't support my 6th gen model. After the installation the system accepts the driver and about 20 sec later the screen blacks out again. I had to system restore inorder to use it again.

You're very welcome.

Sorry that the driver from Intel didn't work either.

Unfortunately, I don't have any other suggestions for you to try.
