Experiencing a black screen with the HP True Vision 5MP camera can be caused by several factors. Here are some troubleshooting steps that can help resolve this issue:
Check the Camera Settings:
- Press the Fn key along with the function key that has a camera icon among your laptop's function keys (e.g. F6, F10) to ensure the camera is not disabled.
Update Camera Drivers:
- Ensure your camera drivers are up to date. You can do this by:
- Going to Device Manager
- Locating Imaging devices and selecting HP True Vision 5MP Camera
- Right-click and select Update driver
Check the Camera Privacy Shutter:
- Some HP Spectre models, like the Spectre x360, come with a built-in privacy shutter. Ensure the shutter is open and not blocking the camera.
Check Camera App:
- Ensure that the application you are using (like Zoom, Skype, etc.) is allowed to access the camera. This can be checked in Windows settings:
- Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera
- Ensure the app has permission to use the camera
Restart the Computer:
- Sometimes, restarting the computer can resolve temporary glitches with the camera.
Running Windows Troubleshooter:
- Windows includes a troubleshooting tool that can help fix camera problems. To access this tool:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot
- Select and run the Camera troubleshooter
