I am unable to complete my download due to user account control.  It says "to continue, enter an admin user name and password".

The only option I get is NO

If some one could advise it would be a great help.

Thanks

Welcome to the HP Support Community, @jcrowe86

What dowload you refer to ?  Could you elaborate ?

With regards to the UAC issue, could you take a picture of this with your camera or smartphone and post it back here ?

Hello @jcrowe86

Thank you for providing me with the screenshot - this makes it clear.

The screen you see part of a security system in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, called User Account Control (UAC). It pops-up to prompt you (the user) to grant the certain app higher (bigger) permissions to make changes to your PC. This is for security reasons to avoind unwanted apps make hidden changes. More details for UAC >> https://www.digitalcitizen.life/uac-why-you-should-never-turn-it-off

UAC is an essential part of Windows. Unfortunately, when this gets corrupted, there are not many options for quick repair.

Options which may be available for relatively quick fix:

  • SYSTEM RESTORE - restore back your system files, settings and Windows registry to a previous known good state, kind of "turning back time". Restore back to a state (date and time) where you know there were no problems with UAC. Here is more information:

Try the option "Restore your computer when Windows cannot start normally" to avoid having to work with UAC

If the above did not work, try next option.

  •  ENABLE HIDDEN ADMIN ACCOUNT

You should know that there is a hidden Administrator account in every Windows which is not active by default. A workaround may be to enable this hidden account, log into it and try some repair procedures.

While with the Admin account and connected to the Internet, try running in Command Prompt

sfc.exe /scannow

and later    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

  • If none of the above helped, consider performing clean full reinstallation of Windows.

Don't forget to copy / back-up your files to an external place before reinstalling

Let me know how it goes
