Hi @Noel1968

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today. If you're unable to scan with your HP DeskJet 3880 and you're getting a message about needing to install the WIA (Windows Imaging Acquisition) driver, here’s how you can resolve the issue:

1. Install the HP Scan Drivers (WIA)

Go to the HP Support website: click here

  • Visit the HP DeskJet 3880 support page.
  • Enter your printer model and download the latest full feature driver for your operating system (Windows or macOS).

Run the Installer:

  • Once the driver is downloaded, run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.

2. Check Device Manager (for Windows)

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  • Scroll down to Imaging Devices and look for your printer.
  • If it has a yellow warning icon, right-click on it and select Update driver.
    • You can search online for the latest driver or manually browse to the location where you downloaded the HP driver earlier.

3. Enable Windows Scan Service

  • Open the Run dialog (press Windows + R) and type services.msc, then press Enter.
  • Scroll down and find Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
  • Right-click and select Start (if it's not already running) or Restart if it’s already running.

4. Use the HP Smart App (Alternative Method)

  • Download the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store (Windows) or from the App Store (macOS).
  • Open the app, and it should automatically detect your printer. From there, you can scan directly from the app.

5. Check Scanner Settings

  • Open your scanning app (e.g., Windows Fax and Scan or the HP Scan software).
  • Make sure your HP DeskJet 3880 is selected as the default scanning device.
  • Try scanning again to see if the issue is resolved.

6. Restart Printer and PC

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
