CQ61-420US
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have been unable to make my Compaq CQ61-420US notebook with Windows 7 open Linux Mint 19 LTS 64 bit from a Linux Builder 8 GB USB Flash drive. If I follow Linux Builder’s instructions and insert the flash drive before turning on the computer, the ESC key that is supposed to open the Setup menu doesn't work and the computer "freezes" at the screen that says to press the ESC key to get to the Setup menu. If I start the computer without flash drive I can use the ESC key, get to the Setup menu and make USB hard drive first on the boot list, then save and exit. However, restarting the computer with the flash drive installed gets to the screen referring to use of the ESC key to get to the Setup menu and freezes at that screen.

Can anyone who has successfully installed Linux on a Compaq CQ61 provide help?
