My microphone stopped working on my HP 17-by3065st. It originally had Windows 10 and upgraded to Windows 11. Not sure when the mic stopped working. However, now it doesnt work. I checked for driver updates and bios updates, i reinstalled the audio driver as well. I took my hard drive out and put a new hard drive in and installed Windows 10 21H2. Microphone still doesnt work. Webcam works and audio works. Microphone is detected, however, no sounds can be recorded or picked up. I installed an old version of Windows 10 (1909). Still same thing, mic detected but doesnt work. I ordered a replacement webcam/microphone. Took the old one out, installed the new one. Same thing, webcam works, microphone doesnt. I put my original hard drive back in (with windows 11) and tried an old audio driver. Still not working. Im lost as to what to try next. Doesnt seem to be software because it doesnt work with a clean install of Windows 10 on a different drive. Maybe a BIOS update bricked the microphone??? a bios update that was done before i realized i had issues??? Very confused and not sure what else to try. Checked privacy settings in windows as well. Tested the mic in windows and via other software. Same thing, detects the mic, no sounds get recorded or picked up.
Help!

Hi@TopTechAlex,
Welcome to the HP Support Community! I'd like to help!
I see you are experiencing issues with the HP Notebook Microphone is not working correctly.
I have a few recommendations
- Update your Notebook computer to latest BIOS from HP.COM.
- Check with any headphones if it works fine.
- Make sure the Windows and HP support assistant updates are up to date.
- For further Microphone troubleshooting please click this link
The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.
Click here for the HP Cloud Recovery Tool (Windows 10) link.
