Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Will my HP Pavilion dv6t-2000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC accept the new Microsoft Windows 1809 update?

My HP Pavilion dv6t-2000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC 64 bit came with Windows 7. I upgraded to the Windows 10 years ago.  My current Windows 10 version is now 1803.

Does this computer still have the proper hardware to support the up coming Windows 10, 1809 update?

@Michael23

I have an older DV6 laptop, which came with Win7 preinstalled, and it's running Win10 v1809 64-bit with no issues.

Unfortunately, MS does not provide any utilities we can run that will assess a PCs ability to run a specific Version of Win10. So, they are of no help, here.

What I would suggest, to test this out and avoid issues, is the following:

1) Follow the instructions below to make a full image backup of the PC to an external drive -- including create an MR Boot USB stick

2) Use this MS link to download and create Win10 v1809 install media on USB stick:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

3) Insert the USB stick into your PC (do NOT boot from it), find the folder containing the USB files, locate the setup.exe file in that folder, right-click on that file, and select Run as Administrator.  This will attempt the Fall 1809 Feature Upgrade on your PC.  Be patient, as this could take a couple of hours or more.

If that works, you are good to go!

If that does not work, the connect the external drive containing the MR image backup, boot from the MR USB stick you created, and choose the option to Restore the backup.

-------------  Backup Instructions --------------------------------------------

I personally prefer to use third-party Backup solutions as they tend to be both more flexible and more reliable than any built-in solutions.

Macrium Reflect (MR) provides a FREE version that can be used to image and restore partitions or entire drives.

What I recommend is the following:
1) Download and install Macrium Reflect (MR) from here: http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx
2) Run MR and choose the option: "Create an image of the partition(s) required to backup and restore Windows" to write a full backup to an external drive or USB stick
3) Use the option to create a boot USB stick or CD

My experience is that MR, when using the High Compression option, typically can compress the saved image file to about 50% of the USED space in the OS partition. This means if you have an 80GB OS partition, and 40GB is used, MR only needs about 20GB to store the image file.

I use this all the time and it typically takes less than 15 minutes to do the image backup and about the same time or less to do a restore.

NOW, you have the means to restore a full working system from the external drive or USB stick in only a few minutes.
