I have been dealing with this issue and using a wireless mouse for a few months now, since april, to be exact. I searched the fourums, and saw others that had a similiar issue, but it was resolved by installing a driver. Mine does not seem to be so simple, as my trackpad does not show up on my device list, only my wireless mouse. Tapping the top left corner does not get the light to turn on.
I appreciate any help that can be given, and thanks in advance!

first step is to troubleshoot and if the issue is not resolved then download the touchpad drivers from http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers >Synaptics TouchPad Driver and update or you can directly update directly from hp support assistant.

UPDATE: Went to troubleshooting, performed hard reset, Windows still cannot "find" my touchpad.
I have received the same merror message as before:
"Unableto connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver.
If you have installed anotherPS/2 Pointing Device Driver please
uninstall the Snaptics driver by clicking on the Yes button You then
need to reinstall your pointingdevice driver for your external device
Do you want to uninstall the Synaptics driver now?"
