It rarely works to just switch a hard drive from one machine to another. Each machine usually has different hardware and Windows requires drivers for that specific hardware or it is not going to run well or at all in some cases. Have you checked your Support page to see if there are drivers available for Windows 8? If so that may help.
There is also the matter of license. A Windows OEM license key such as used by HP, Dell and other manufacturers belongs to the motherboard of original machine and it is actually illegal to move it. Microsoft will often shut it down if detected that the hard drive with Windows has been moved to another machine.
