Sleep Mode doesn't work

HP 250 G5
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My computer recently updated automatically and ever since then it does not sleep properly. Instead of sleeping and being able to resume quickly on wake-up, the computer has to boot up as if it were switched off.

I've changed all the power settings to try ensure that the hard drive doesn't shut down just to test, I've updated the drivers and still nothing is resolved. Once I restart the computer the power settings revert back to the original settings.

It's really frustrating having to restart the computer and every programme  if I leave my computer for 20 inutes to do something else.

Please help

Sleep Mode doesn't work

Hello aGuyWithAPC

Have you tried turning off Hibernate mode?

To effectively do so, turn it off from the Windows Command Prompt.

Type cmd into the Windows Searchbar and choose Command Prompt in the list of choices.

Type this into the command window,

powercfg /h off

then hit the Enter key.

To turn it back on...

powercfg /h on

Here is HP's list of suggestions for Sleep issues also.

Let me know what happens.

Thanks for the quick response.

Tried that and it didn't work. Got this result: "Unable to perform operation.  An unexpected error (0x65b) has occurred:  Function failed during execution."

Sleep Mode doesn't work

Run CMD as Administrator.

When you see the option for Command Prompt from the search bar, right click on it and run as administrator.

See if it works.

Sleep Mode doesn't work

Im not sure whats going on then.

In the mean time...

If you set the power options to not sleep, does that work or does it still try to sleep?

Then just power it off completely at night until a fix is found.

Its not a fix, but at least you wont lose work this way.

Also, IF this happend after a Windows update, have you tried to roll back to a restore point prior to when this started?

It will try to update again but might not cause this afterward.

Sleep Mode doesn't work

I've tried changing all the sleep options.

The hard drive shuts off completely as soon as the lid closes.

Will try a roll back and see if it works.

Thanks

And to clarify, changing what the lid does in the settings to do nothing has no effect also?

Very odd.

I dont normally advise doing a reinstall, but if you cannot find the culprit, it may be worth the time to recovery the laptop back to factory and start new.

If you do, I would consider creating a backup image after your programs are installed. I personally like Aomei Backupper.

It will save you time if something happens again.

Let me know what happens.
