Hp split x2 notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

After a Windows 10 update, touched is uncontrollable. Cursor moves, but does things on its own like highlight, select things or move the screen. Left click to select things basically does not work. Had checked and no mechanical issue. Any suggestions?

@Bwleclair1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are facing issues with the touchpad after a Windows update.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you uninstall the touchpad driver from the device manager and then download and install it form the below link and check if it helps.

Here is how it is done.

Download Link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers

  1. Type "Device Manager" into the search field to open the device manager console.
  2. Expand the node that represents the type of device that you want to uninstall, right-click the device entry, and click Uninstall.
  3. On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK to start the uninstall process.
  4. When the uninstall process is complete, remove the device.

NOTE: On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click the Delete the driver software for this device option to delete the driver package that was used for the device.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

I tried your suggestion yesterday.  when I went to the driver link, there were only 2 drivers.  One was labeled as a mouse.  The other a virtual button driver.  I assume the virtual button is for my touchscreen since I can detatch the keyboard and use as a tablet.  Is the mouse driver for a touchpad, or was I looking in the wrong place?

@Bwleclair1,

The touchpad driver should be listed under Mice and other pointing devices. If the touchpad driver is not listed in the device manager then download and install the driver from the link shared in the previous post.
