Currently having problems with my touchpad, the left side is dipped in by around a millimetre.
When I go to right click it registers as a left click and when I left click it registers as both, I usually use the laptop I'm using for games and I've never had anything had this happen to me before.
Bottom left click registers as both and top left click registers as left
Bottom Right Click doesn't do anything but top right click responds as left
Please can I have some advice as I really want to get this sorted.

Hi @Riley2012Real,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your touchpad may have a physical defect or alignment issue causing inconsistent behavior. Here are some steps to address the problem.
Inspect for Physical Damage
- Check for swelling: A swollen battery can cause the touchpad to misalign or bulge. If the bottom of the laptop appears raised or the touchpad feels uneven, immediately stop using the laptop.
- Clean the touchpad: Ensure no dirt, debris, or sticky residue is causing interference with the buttons.
Calibrate the Touchpad
Sometimes, touchpad settings or software glitches can cause erratic behavior. Try recalibrating:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
- Adjust sensitivity settings and ensure "Tap to click" or similar gestures are configured properly.
- Disable "Tap with two fingers to right-click" if it conflicts with physical clicks.
Update or Reinstall Drivers
Outdated or corrupted drivers may contribute to the issue:
- Update drivers:
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Human Interface Devices or Mice and other pointing devices.
- Right-click your touchpad driver (e.g., "Synaptics" or "ELAN") and select Update driver.
- Reinstall drivers:
- Right-click the driver and select Uninstall device.
- Restart the laptop, and Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.
Test in Safe Mode
Boot your laptop into Safe Mode to check if the problem persists:
- If the issue is resolved in Safe Mode, a third-party application might be causing conflicts.
Perform a Hardware Test
HP laptops often include built-in diagnostics:
- Restart your laptop and press F2 (or the designated key for diagnostics) to enter the HP Hardware Diagnostics tool.
- Run a test for the touchpad or input devices.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
