Notebook #15-bs289wm
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Every time I start the computer, I need to Activate Windows. Apparently it deactivated when it powers down.

Also, it doesn't want to update Windows to 1909 version.

@Pb2brack

Its specs

    https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c06171852

It came with   Windows 10 Home 64 pre-installed. Did you buy it from someone ? Hope the old owner did not play around with BIOS.

Please do a CLEAN install Windows 10 using

     https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

The tool will allow you to make a bootable installation media (USB/DVD) and you can use installation media to install.

During the installation process if you are asked to enter a product key, check the 'Skip' box and W10 will install and then automatically activate once you are connected to the internet using the key embedded in BIOS of your machine.

Then you can install the drivers and available software you need from your PC's support page. Normally few Windows 10 updates can install nearly all drivers for you.

Regards.

Thank you for the help. This was supposed to replace my ten-tear-old Toshiba. I do like the laptop. It came in the original packaging with the outside labels removed.

I emailed the seller and they said they made no modifications to the laptop.

I just completed a factory reset in a final attempt to fix it and keep it.

Is it worth the time to do the clean install as you suggested or should i just return it?
