You're very welcome, Steve:
The only suggestion I can offer would be to see if the fingerprint sensor driver I gave this forum member for a different model HDX notebook works on yours.
For the software, you can try the W7 HP Simplepass software and see if that works.
This package contains the HP SimplePass Identity Protection 2011 Software for the supported notebook models and operating systems. This software protects identity information and account access using the computer owner's fingerprint.

Hi, Steve:
HP retired support for that model series since it is more than 10 years old.
There were only Vista drivers for your model when it was under support by HP.
This reputable website has the drivers you need for your notebook, and most if not all of the Vista drivers should work on W7.
https://www.helpjet.net/files-HP-Pavilion-HDX9494NR.html
The HDX9494NR was sold in the United States and has basically the same specs as yours.
W10? You can try the free upgrade to W10 if you are running W7 and see how it works.
Click on the blue Update now button at the link below.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
If things don't work right you have 30 days to go back to W7 as long as you don't delete any files.
Here is a link that indicates that you can still get the free upgrade.

Please let me know if you need additional assistance with getting the drivers for W7.
