Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an older HP Pavilion that my son has been using and recently windows simply disappeared. I am trying to find a way to reinstall and get up and running again and not concerned that mean a factory reset.

I have a flash drive and tried to create the recovery files via another computer. The Cloud Recovery Installer has downloaded and runs ok but when I run the HP Cloud recovery tool itself it asks for the product ID but when I enter it I get the error 'Product ID doesn't match or is invalid'.

Have checked I am reading that correctly (confusing between O and 0) by checking the model and warranty status elsewhere (it's well outside :))

Not sure what I can do now but any advice gratefully received.

Your PC's probably either too old to have been supported by the HP cloud recovery tool, or the cloud recovery tool software is no longer available for your notebook.

Notebooks made prior to 2016 were never supported by the HP cloud recovery tool.

I have recently noticed that notebooks made from around 2016 - 2018 that used to be supported by the software are no longer supported, and I have a feeling that HP is only offering that software for up to 5 years.

So, your only other option would be to use the Microsoft media creation tool to create a bootable W10 installation flash drive to reinstall W10.

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.
