Microsoft Windows 11

i have an omen HP17 computer and not long ago, i had a problem where i accidentally activated with random keyboard input the caps lock notification. After some searching i found that the cause of this was the HP system event utility. So i reinstalled it and restarted my computer, and it worked! But now my problem is that this happened to me a second time yesterday. So i did the exact same thing, and it did not work this time for some reason. I did not find anyone else with this problem, i do not have the logi options+ app.

Hi @pakistire,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've already uninstalled the HP System Event Utility and are still facing issues with the Caps Lock notification on your HP Omen 17 laptop. Since the usual solution didn't work this time, let's try some alternative methods.

Check On-Screen Display (OSD) Settings in Windows

Some laptops have built-in OSD settings that manage notifications for Caps Lock. Here's how you can check:

  • Go to Settings > Ease of Access > Keyboard.
  • Look for the option "Toggle Keys" (which plays a sound when you press Caps Lock, Num Lock, or Scroll Lock) and see if it's turned on. Try toggling this setting off and on to reset it.

Update Keyboard Drivers

Sometimes outdated keyboard drivers can cause OSD issues:

  • Go to Device Manager > Keyboards.
  • Right-click your keyboard driver and select Update Driver. Choose Search automatically for drivers and see if Windows finds any updates.

If that doesn't work, you can try uninstalling the driver and rebooting your laptop to let Windows reinstall it automatically.

Check for HP Omen Gaming Hub Settings

Since you're using an HP Omen 17, the Omen Gaming Hub might have settings that manage display notifications like Caps Lock. Try this:

  • Open Omen Gaming Hub and look for any Notification Settings or Keyboard Settings.
  • Disable any settings related to on-screen notifications for Caps Lock.

Disable Caps Lock Notifications via Windows Registry (Advanced)

You can disable Caps Lock notifications through the Windows registry if the software methods don't work. Here's how to do it:

  1. Press Windows + R, type regedit, and hit Enter.
  2. Navigate to:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced.
  3. Look for a DWORD value named CapsLock.
    • If it exists, set the value to 0 to disable the notification.
    • If it doesn’t exist, create a new DWORD (32-bit) Value and name it CapsLock, then set its value to 0.
  4. Restart your computer.

If these steps don’t resolve the issue, it might be useful to reinstall the HP System Event Utility again after a clean uninstall and reboot.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

hello @Alden4

sadly, none of your solutions worked for me. I have already tried many times to toggle on and off the "toggle keys" option without any success. Windows said that all of my keyboards were updated. I did not find any caps lock notifications settings in the HP gaming hub. And for the last solution, i did not find the CapsLock DWORD value, so i created a new one without forgetting the capital letters, restarted my computer, and it changed nothing.

Although i did forget to mention that the notification appears when i press the num lock and scroll lock key.
