Hi @Lloyd_01,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot your HP laptop that's not charging or turning on.
Verify the Basics
- Check the Power Source: Ensure the power outlet is working. Try plugging another device into the same outlet.
- Inspect the Charger: Check the charger and cable for any visible damage or loose connections. If possible, test with another compatible charger.
Reset the Laptop
- Disconnect the charger from the laptop.
- Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to discharge any residual power.
- Reconnect the charger and try turning on the laptop.
Check the Charging Port
- Inspect the charging port for dirt, debris, or damage. Use compressed air or a soft brush to clean it if needed.
- Ensure the charger is firmly connected.
Test with a Different Charger
If you have access to another HP charger that is compatible with your laptop, try using it to see if the issue is with the charger or the laptop.
Check the Battery
If your laptop has a removable battery:
- Remove the battery and connect the charger directly to the laptop.
- Try turning on the laptop without the battery. If it powers on, the battery may need replacement.
Hard Reset
For HP laptops with a non-removable battery:
- Disconnect the charger and any peripherals (mouse, USB devices, etc.).
- Hold the power button for 30-60 seconds.
- Plug in the charger and try to turn on the laptop.
Look for Charger/Light Indications
- If the laptop shows no signs of life and the charging light remains off, check the following:
- Adapter light: Some chargers have an indicator light on the power brick. If this light is off, the charger may be faulty.
- Charging light behavior: If the light flickers or doesn't light up at all, it may indicate an internal issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
