I purchased a brand new HP 14 fq1000 laptop on May 17, 2024. The touchscreen is absolutely terrible no matter what - apps, online, offline, videos, photos. Documents in Word on a white background are the worst - difficult to read text and the viewing angle is mostly washed out at the lower end of the screen at almost any angle the screen is tilted. Adjusting the brightness does nothing but increase the washed out appearance.
The performance, keyboard, speakers, touchpad are good.
AMD Rysen 7 5700U with Windows 11Pro, Business laptop with 32 GB memory and 1T SSD. The HP packaging says it's HD screen, but in the Windows settings, it indicates the hardware is not HD compatible.
VERY disappointed - a screen this bad would likely be hard to find even in very low cost laptops. 😥

Hi @BC129,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear about the frustration you're experiencing with the screen of your new HP 14 fq1000 laptop. While the laptop's performance and other features seem satisfactory, a poor display can indeed be disappointing. Here are some steps you can take to address the issue:
Check Display Settings:
- Open the display settings in Windows 11 and ensure that the resolution is set to the recommended level for your screen.
- Adjust other display settings such as color calibration, contrast, and sharpness to see if it improves the viewing experience.
Update Graphics Drivers:
- Ensure that your graphics drivers are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause display issues.
- You can update your graphics drivers through the Device Manager or by downloading the latest drivers from the AMD website.
Calibrate the Display:
- Windows 11 includes a display calibration tool that allows you to adjust the color balance, brightness, and contrast of your screen.
- Use the display calibration tool to fine-tune the settings and improve the overall appearance of the screen.
Perform a Factory Reset:
- As a last resort, you can perform a factory reset on your laptop to restore it to its original settings.
- Keep in mind that this will erase all data on the laptop, so be sure to back up any important files before proceeding.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for your response and help.
I downloaded the AMD graphics driver update, as well as switching on accessibility in the display settings. I think these actions have made the screen adequately useful.
Again, thank you for your assistance.
