Brightness cannot change

HP Recommended
HP Pavilion Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

About a month ago, my brightness began refusing to budge. The buttons don't work, the option is not there in settings, I've spoken to people and they cannot find the solution. I've tried updating my Intel display driver (there are two display drivers), and both my display drivers in device manager say that they are up to date. This issue occurs on my laptop screen.

Some things that may be relevant: I occasionally use an external display monitor, I recently updated all my drivers on Outbyte Driver Updater, and I reset my PC less than a month ago.

@SteamingSheep Note: Please ensure the complete product name/number for a quicker response from the community, as we need to know what we are dealing with to provide an accurate solution: Click here for steps on finding the information we need!

Remember: Do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.

Meanwhile, here's something you can attempt:

1) Search for Device Manager in Start Menu
2) Expand the Monitors section
3) Right click on Generic PnP Monitor and
4) Click on Enable and you should be good to go.

There is no 'enable' button. I think you do not understand my problem. The display itself works and the screen is perceptible, but I cannot freely alter my brightness.

The product name is 'HP Pavilion Notebook' and number is '5SB67PA#ABG'.

@SteamingSheep

This seems to be a driver issue

I suggest you download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/psg/p...

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also ensure Windows is up to date.

Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available

Keep me posted how it goes

Thank you and have a wonderful day 😊
