HP Notebook - 15-da0012dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Recently I started getting a S.M.A.R.T. error on the laptop so I replaced the SSD with a PNY CS900 Sata SSD. I can boot into windows when the original SSD is installed but as soon as I take the old SSD out I just get a black screen. I get power to the components the CPU gets warm but I do not get any picture out. But as soon as I put back the original SSD which is a M.2 I get picture again. I can get into the CS900 boot after pressing enter with the S.M.A.R.T. error and choosing the OS partition but I cannot take out the CS900.

Hi Lemjams,

Thanks for reaching out.

Please download then install the latest version of BIOS & Chipset drivers from this link:

HP Notebook - 15-da0012dx Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Customer Support

Then, check to see if your issue still exist or not.

Feel free to ask if you need further assistance.

Hi,

The best idea for your machine would be to use an M2 PCIe NVMe drive as it will be much faster than a 2.5" SATA3 SSD.

Example

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-970-EVO-Plus-MZ-V7S2T0B/dp/B07M7Q21N7/ref=sr_1_3?crid=29MG8CVJJVKQP&k...

Did you clean install the OS on the CS900 drive?

or did you clone the old drive to the new drive?

Was the Cs900 completely clean or already partitioned?

You could remove the old M2 drive from the PC and use an bootable USB drive to install the OS on the new CS900 drive. During installation choose custom and delete all partitions on the drive.

Hope it helps,

David
