HP Laptop 14-cf0xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Am trying to display using a usb-c to HDMI cable to my monitor using a HP Laptop 14-cf0xxx and getting the error 

Display connection might be limited

What is your HP Laptop 14-cf0xxx  ?  For example

 

         HP Notebook - 14-cf0013dx

 

Your machine probably is very close to the above machine which says it only has

 

          1 USB 3.1 Type-C™ Gen 1 (Data Transfer up to 5 Gb/s) port

 

That  USB-C™ port does not support USB-C - HDMI and you can't connect a monitor to it. You can only use it as a normal USB-A port, with a different shape of connector.
