Hp Envy x360 15
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello everyone, I have an issue with my laptop in which the display will flicker slightly on startup. It is very visible when I have a dark window/wallpaper on, and less so when its a white/bright window or wallpaper. The laptop is new, an HP Envy x360 15 inch model.

Display adapters:-

  • Intel UHD 620 (paired with an intel i7-10510U)

  • Nvidia mx250 4GB

When the intel card is disabled, there is no flickering but that is not an option as leaving the dGPU on the whole time is not convenient (heat, battery and no brightness control). I have updated both drivers to the most recent version from HP, then from Intel/nvidia separately but the issue persists, and connecting an external monitor has no flicker.

The confusing part that makes me believe that it is not a hardware issue, is that when going into the bios, there is no flickering, and booting linux also has no flickering. The issue seems to be only on windows 10. I have looked online and found no helpful solutions or anything similar to my issue, laptop is still in warrantee so I might take it to HP to sort this out.

Does anyone have an idea as to how to solve this issue?

Welcome to HP Community

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

I suggest you download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/psg/p...

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also ensure Windows is up to date.

Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available

Keep me posted how it goes

Thank you and have a wonderful day 😊

Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

I have already done this, updated through the HP app and the problem persisted. I then removed the driver completely, reinstalled using HP app, problem got worse with aggressive flickering. After that I removed the driver again and reinstalled it from intel directly. Now it is less flickery but it is still annoying. Windows is also completely up to date.

Thanks for keeping me posted

At this point I suggest you perform a Reset and then run all the updates once again
