I am using a usb c to DP cable but I can't get any output. The specs online say the USB c is DP1.2 capable, if so, how do I get a picture? If not, why do the specs say I can output to display port? The cable I'm using uses DP Alt mode protocol.

You need to check from Linux side. I know it works under Windows.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
- What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824 (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).
The USB-C is a universal charging standard. That means that, technically, it doesn't matter what USB-C charger you use, it should be able to power up a laptop with a USB-C charging port and power bank. ... Some laptops come with USB-C ports that don't charge.
- Note: It should be USB 3.1 protocol.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
