Hi @tomas1955,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

Sorry for the inconvenience caused and don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Did the touchscreen stop working after a Windows update or driver update?
  • Have you tried reinstalling or updating the driver through HP Support Assistant or Windows Device Manager?

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try right away:

  • Check Windows Updates: Make sure your system is fully updated, as Windows often pushes driver fixes through updates.
  • HP Support Assistant: Open HP Support Assistant and run a check for updates. It should detect and install the latest ELAN or HID drivers if available.
  • Device Manager Reset:
    1. Open Device Manager.
    2. Expand Human Interface Devices.
    3. Right-click the ELAN EZTouchFilter driver (or HID-compliant touch screen) and select Uninstall device.
    4. Restart your laptop  Windows should attempt to reinstall the driver automatically.
  • BIOS Update: Sometimes a BIOS update resolves hardware communication issues. You can check for updates on HP’s official support page https://support.hp.com/  for your Spectre Folio model.

I hope this helps.

The recommended solutions did not work. There is no more actual driver available. Is it possible to install another driver (not the original ELAN TouchFilter Driver)?

Hi @tomas1955,

Thanks for your response.

I understand your concern, However the ELAN Touchscreen Driver is specifically designed for your device’s hardware, so using a completely different driver isn’t generally supported it may cause instability or prevent the touchscreen from functioning correctly. That said, there are a few additional troubleshooting steps you can try before ruling out options:

  • Windows Update Check
Make sure your system is fully updated. Sometimes Microsoft distributes driver updates through Windows Update rather than HP’s support page.
  • Device Manager Refresh
    • Open Device Manager → expand Human Interface Devices.
    • Right-click the ELAN touchscreen device → select Uninstall device.
    • Restart your laptop; Windows should attempt to reinstall a compatible driver automatically.
  • Hardware Scan via HP Support Assistant
Run HP Support Assistant’s hardware diagnostics. It can sometimes detect missing or outdated drivers and pull the correct version.
  • BIOS Update
Ensure your BIOS is up to date from HP’s official support website https://support.hp.com/ Outdated firmware can sometimes interfere with hardware recognition.
  • Touchscreen Calibration
Go to Control Panel → Tablet PC Settings → Calibrate the screen for pen or touch input. Recalibration may help if the driver is present but behaving inconsistently.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, the safest path is to continue using the official ELAN driver even if it’s an older version since third-party drivers are not guaranteed to work with HP’s hardware.

I hope this helps.
