Pavillion gaming 15-ec1195nd
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Notebook HP Pavillion 15-ec1195nd with GeForce GTX 1660 TI with MAX-Q design

Second screen LG Ultrawide 29UM59

When I only use the ultra wide screen Google maps gives me a black screen. When I switch back to only the notebook screen, I can refresh firefox and maps shows the map again. With both screens on it will also become black. I installed the drivers for the ultra wide with no change to the problem. Also I have problems with blurry dialog boxes on the ultra wide.

The ultra wide is connected by a short HQ HDMI cable and I tried different resolutions with no succes. I had a cheaper HP Notebook before that in the same setup didn't give me this problem.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

Is the HDMI connected to the onboard (AMD) graphics or to the GeForce?

Welcome to HP Community

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

I suggest you download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/psg/p...

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also ensure Windows is up to date.

Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available

Keep me posted how it goes

Thank you and have a wonderful day 😊

Thank you KrazyToad.

I've performed the suggested steps. It looks like the black screen issue is solved.

HP update said the AMD video driver needed to be updated, also the BIOS updated.

Now it says the notebook is up to date.

I do still have problems with my (macro) buttons in excel files. The buttons change of size and place running the macro. I had this problem before running the excel from a extended desktop. This had to do with different resolution on the screens. It looks like the same problem occurs again. I did not have this problem with my previous laptop using the LG ultra wide screen as extended screen.

Also the office applications are shown blurry on the laptop screen as the ultra wide is connected over the HDMI. On the LG UW the office aplications are not shown blurry.

If I only use the laptop screen the office aplications are shown fine. Hope you also have a solution for that.

greet A.J.

For issues with Excel Macros I suggest you contact HP Smart Friend and the Support Team should be able to remote into your Notebook and sort this out
