HP ENVY 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17-cr0000 IDS Base Model

I have 2 external monitor attached to my laptop.  They were both working just fine for a couple of years.  One of them went black (no display) however, still is getting power.  I switched out cords, tried a different monitor. still no display.  Randomly it starting working again.  Now it's not.  Any idea what is causing it to not show a display?

It's not a driver issue as monitors don't use drivers.  My guess is that the display port, especially if you connect and disconnect the monitor a lot, has worked loose from its connection to the motherboard -- and eventually, that connection will break and the monitor won't work anymore.

If you want to experiment, there are USB-to-Video adapters out there you could use to connect the monitor to an USB port.

Thank you for the response. I appreciate you taking the time to do so.

The monitor with the issue is connected via an adapter, it's a VGA to USB.  So if I'm already using an adapter then would there be any other options/suggestions to try to get it to work?  I tried a different adapter and no luck.
