Pavilion 17-ab200xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi!

A have an HP Pavilion laptop with broken screen. I connected external display using HDMI, but it shows nothing until windows loads. I mean, display by HDMI is not showing bios, grub etc. I think, HDMI connects to video card and video card driver stars starts only on windows.

Is there any way to change HDMI settings or anything?

Or how to connect HDMI to 40 pin (30 pin screen and 10 pin webcam) connector on motherboard, previously used by built-in screen? Is there any adapters or anything?

Thanks in advance!

@yela Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that you are facing issues with an external display using HDMI.

The only way to enter bios in a broken laptop screen is to unplug the main laptop broken screen from the inverter in order the system to identify vga output as the only monitor.

This covers many different brands and not just HP.  The external monitor is not activated until Windows is loaded.  The notebook will otherwise function normally.  You just won't be able to access the BIOS unless you replace the notebook's LCD screen.

Here is the video for clear understanding:

Thanks for your answer.

As you can see from the picture below, external monitor already defined as the only monitor.

And my laptop has not VGA output, HDMI only.

And I already unplugged internal screen totally and removed lid.

I just tried to do as in the video, plugged in the cable to the motherboard and unplugged from screen. It didn`t work, but webcam worked. I mean, webcam and screen normally connected to the motherboard using one 40-pin connector. It means, that  it connected to the motherboard properly.

The case is that in other laptops unplugging the screen from motherboard connector is usually solves the problem and the only connected screen is defined as main.
