HP 14-ce0029nl - thunderbolt port compatibility issue on VGA

HP Recommended
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have purchased a brand new USB type-C hub to get the VGA port output, an additional LAN plug and some additional USB port.

However - when I connect this hub to the laptop - no signal is provided to the VGA external display even if I force the output to the external display through the F5 key.

My laptop's thunderbolt port should support the video output as declared on the HP site for this laptop model:  1 USB 3.1 Type-C™ Gen 1 (trasferimento dati fino a 5 Gb/s, alimentazione, DisplayPort™ 1.2, HP Sleep and Charge);

Amy suggestion ?

Could it be a cmpatibility issue ?

Thanks

Ciao

Hello

il tuo computer non ha la porta Thunderbolt , ma una USB-C con supporto displayPort e capacità di alimentare il PC.

Your computer has a USB-C video alternati port , not a thunderbolt.

in ogni caso la porta USB-C con segnale display port deve poter funzioare con dispositivi hub/docking che accettano il segnale video DisplayPort.

in any case such port should support USB-C hub/dock able to get DisplayPort signal out of USB-C port.

ma ci sono sul mercato anche hub che hanno a bordo un chip DisplayLink, in tal caso serve aggiungere un driver. puoi indicare marca e modello dell' hub ?

But on the market there are even hub with DisplyLink chip on  board, in that case you nueed a driver. could you please write brand and hub model ?

grazie

Thanks

ciao

bye

Thank you for your quick and kind reply 🙂

The hub's model is AUKEY CB-C55.

I have no unknown devide in device manager but - when I connect the hub the laptop - Windows displays a message about the wrong resolution of the displayport.

Laptop's dirvers are updated, maybe a new BIOS version could be flashed.

If this hub is not compatible with my laptop, how can I check the compatibility for a future purchase ?

Thanks.

Damiano

Ciao Damiano

in therory it should wrok, but on this web site, the ysay that that Hub is not compatible with some HP products:

https://leonardoverona.it/aukey-cb-c55-hub-usb-c-gray-recensione/

you bought it from here: https://www.amazon.it/AUKEY-Ethernet-Alluminio-Adattatore-Multi-Porta/dp/B07999FXZT?th=1

you can ask to the reseller about compatibility.

Do you have an USB-C Power supply for smartphone , so you can try to provide power to the HUb ?

bye

Hi,

yes, I've purchased it on amazon.it and probably I will return the hub to them.

Yes, I have type-c power supply but I don't understand how it can halp me in this issue analysis.

So basically I'll need to try many models to get the compatible one 🙂

Unfortunately I didn't find any HP hub with LAN , 2 USB ports and a VGA port in the same hub (unfortunately I've broken the onboard RJ45 LAN port).

Thanks.

Damiano

@damu999

As you can see, your machine ONLY has  1 USB 3.1 Type-C™ Gen 1 (Data Transfer up to 5 Gb/s, Power Delivery, DisplayPort™ 1.2, HP Sleep and Charge) port which is NOT a Thunderbolt port .

With luck, you can connect to a monitor which has Display Port (DP ) using USB-C to DP cable or you can connect to a monitor which has USB-C port.

Regards.

Hello,

on the HP Store I can find an adapter USB-C/VGA but I need more ports , however I think the video signal convertion is possible.

However I've purchased a HDMI/VGA converter to use the onboard HDMI port so bypassing the USB-C hub and hoping this will work.

Hello Damiano

you wrote "Yes, I have type-c power supply but I don't understand how it can help me in this issue analysis."

the answer is this.

I has some experience where hub or docking without his own power supply.

Such external device needs current to work. So they take the power from the notebook. The notebook power supply have to provide power to the notebook , to the external hub and to the periferals connected to the external hub. It could happens that the notebook power supply  is not able to provide taht quantity of power.

So adding another power supply to the hub, could help to have enought current for everything. in same case this help to solve the issue you have.

HP has a USB-C-to-VGA  adapter ,  for sure it's more expensive than a HDMI-to-VGA adapter.

Ciao,

unfortunately the AUKEY CB-C55 takes power only from the unique input type-C so I think it is a compatibility issue between the hub and the laptop.

The last try I can do is to check the changelog  (if availables) of the various BIOS releases in order to find out if there is some fix for the display part output on usb-C.

Grazie del supporto 🙂

Damiano
