Envy Laptop 17"
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Trying to use an HP 2311X Monitor as a second screen with HDMI cable...when I power the monitor on, DVI, HDMI, and VA is not detected, default is set to DVI (for reasons I do not know).  Then "Check Video Cable" message appears, followed by "Monitor Going to Sleep."

I have tried a factory reset, but nothing happens.

The monitor is not detected by the laptop, though when I power the monitor on/off, the laptop monitor blinks.

The HP2311X Monitor had been working on a desktop with the HDMI cable until the desktop was retired due to age in the past day.

Thanks for the suggestions - tried them all and nothing worked.  When I moved the monitor to another PC, it still exhibited the same symptoms.  After several days of trying, we opted to replace/retired the 2311X...so this issue is, for me at least, closed.

Thanks again for the ideas.

@pat-mcgraw,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I recommend you update the BIOS and the graphics driver on your laptop from the below link and check if it helps.

If you continue facing the issue, check the monitor on a different computer.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
