HP U27 4K Wireless Monitor
Other

Hi, my monitor has been great for a few years but the other day it started flickering badly, almost strobing.  The image on the screen froze (while still strobing).  I turned off the monitor and unplugged the laptop, but when I turned on the now disconnected monitor, it was still flickering and showing the last items that were on the screen before the fault started.  At this point there is no input to the monitor at all and it still shows a desktop / app.

It seems to me like a hardware fault - I've tried a factory reset from the menu but this didn't help.  This week, I've been away for a few days and when I came home and plugged the monitor in again to check it, it still showed a shadow of the old desktop app from the week before with no input.  Doesn't look good.

Any advice gratefully received!

@Rufus23, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Check the Monitor's Input Source: Double-check that the monitor is set to the correct input source. It could be stuck on the last active input (e.g., HDMI) when the signal was lost, and since there's no input now, it might be displaying residual data. You can do this through the monitor's OSD (On-Screen Display) menu.

Unplug Everything and Power Cycle: Disconnect the power cable and all input cables for at least 10-15 minutes.

Test on Another Device: If possible, try plugging the monitor into another laptop or desktop to see if the issue is specific to your laptop or if it's the monitor itself that's failing. This can help isolate the problem to the monitor or the laptop.

Update Firmware: If you haven't done so already, check the HP Support website for any firmware updates for your monitor. Sometimes, glitches like this can be addressed in firmware releases.

Test with the Monitor's Own Settings: If you’re able to access the on-screen menu, try adjusting the refresh rate or resolution settings, just in case the monitor is locked into an incompatible mode.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
