HP ENVY 16 inch Laptop PC 16-h1000 (754F6AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

I have an HP ENVY 16 inch Laptop PC 16-h1000 and I am having two problems that seem possibly related to the display assembly:

  1. Touchscreen no longer works
  2. Camera privacy shutter no longer opens / camera not detected correctly

For the touchscreen, there is no “HID-compliant touch screen” listed under Device Manager → Human Interface Devices. I have enabled View → Show hidden devices, but I still do not see a touchscreen device.

For the camera, Device Manager shows HP Display Camera, but the device status says:

Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)
To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer.

The laptop has a camera privacy/shutter key on the keyboard. The amber light turns on when I “close” the shutter and turns off when I press the key again, but the physical shutter does not open and the camera does not work.

What I have already tried:

  • Updated Windows completely
  • Updated BIOS
  • Reinstalled HP drivers from the official HP support page
  • Reinstalled:
    • Intel Serial IO Driver
    • Intel Chipset Installation Utility and Driver
    • Intel Human Interface Device / HID Event Filter Driver
    • Intel Integrated Sensor Solution Driver
    • HP Application Enabling Software Driver
    • HP Privacy Settings
    • HP Presence
    • ELAN Touch Firmware Update
    • Intel Graphics Driver
  • Tried scanning for hardware changes in Device Manager
  • Tried showing hidden devices in Device Manager
  • Tried installing legacy hardware/drivers manually, but Windows cannot find any compatible legacy driver
  • Installed/checked HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI, but there is no available component test for touchscreen or camera, so I cannot test either device there
  • Issue persist in Windows safe mode.

At this point, both the camera and touchscreen appear to be missing/not detected by Windows. Since both are located in the display assembly area, I am wondering if this could be a display cable, camera/touch digitizer connection, or display assembly hardware issue rather than a software/driver issue.

Could someone from HP or the community advise:

  • Is there a specific driver or firmware package for the touchscreen/camera on the HP ENVY 16-h1000 that I may have missed?
  • Is the missing HID-compliant touch screen normal for this model, or should it definitely appear in Device Manager?
  • Does Code 45 on the HP Display Camera usually indicate a physical connection issue on this model?
  • Should this be treated as a warranty/repair issue?
  • Or is my last resort a full system reset.....

Thank you.

Hi  @mmmmm26,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I hear your concern, and I want to reassure you that you’ve already done a very thorough job with the software side of troubleshooting. Since both the touchscreen and camera are tied to the display assembly, it’s understandable to suspect a hardware connection issue.

Here are a few steps you can try to narrow things down:

1.Verify Touchscreen Presence

Not all ENVY 16-h1000 units include a touchscreen.

Press Win + R → type msinfo32 → Enter

In System Information, look for Pen and Touch

If it says No pen or touch input is available, your unit may not have a touchscreen panel

2.Check Camera in BIOS

Ensures the camera is enabled at firmware level.

Restart → Press F10 to enter BIOS

Navigate to Advanced → Built-in Device Options

Confirm the camera is enabled

Save changes and restart

3.Run HP Hardware Diagnostics (Windows version)

The Windows version sometimes shows more component tests than UEFI.

Install HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows from HP Support website

Launch the tool

Run component tests for Camera and Input Devices

Note any error codes

4.Perform Power Reset

Clears residual power and resets hardware connections.

Shut down laptop

Disconnect AC adapter

Hold power button for 15 seconds

Reconnect and restart

5.Check Physical Shutter Mechanism

If the shutter light toggles but the lens cover doesn’t move, the mechanism may be stuck.

Gently inspect the shutter opening at the top bezel

If stuck or misaligned, this usually requires service

If after these checks the touchscreen still doesn’t appear in Device Manager and the camera remains at Code 45, it suggests a hardware connection issue in the display assembly. In that case, If the unit is in warranty, I’d recommend for repair rather than a reset, since a reset won’t restore missing hardware.

I hope this helps.
