HP ENVY X360 - 13-ar0800no

Hej support community,

need your help with non responsive touchpad on my machine HP ENVY x360 Convertible 13-ar0800no. I reinstalled drivers all lates win updates, incl BIOS update but nothing helped. Downloaded and ran HP diagnostics, with no result-after running the touchpad test it concludes "Test Canceled" when obviously i do not cancel the process. The external mouse works normally.

thanks in advance

Hi @NBP14,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you've done a lot of troubleshooting already for your HP ENVY x360 Convertible 13-ar0800no, but the touchpad still isn’t responding. Let's explore a few additional steps that might help:

1. Check if Touchpad is Disabled

  • Press Fn + F12 (or a similar function key with a touchpad icon) to see if the touchpad is toggled off.
  • Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad and ensure the touchpad is turned on.

2. Device Manager - Touchpad Reinstallation

  • Open Device Manager:
    1. Right-click on Start and choose Device Manager.
    2. Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
    3. Right-click on the touchpad driver (could be labeled Synaptics or ELAN), and select Uninstall device.
    4. Restart your laptop and Windows should reinstall the touchpad driver automatically.

3. Check in BIOS

  • Restart your laptop and press Esc or F10 repeatedly to enter the BIOS.
  • Navigate to the System Configuration or Advanced tab and look for an option to enable or disable the touchpad (it may be labeled as Internal Pointing Device).
  • Ensure the touchpad is Enabled.
  • Save and exit the BIOS.

4. HP Diagnostic UEFI  HP PCs - Testing for hardware failures

Since the HP Diagnostics you ran resulted in "Test Canceled", try running the hardware diagnostics directly from UEFI:

  1. Shut down your laptop.
  2. Turn it back on and press Esc or F2 repeatedly to enter the HP Hardware Diagnostics menu.
  3. Run the Touchpad Test under Component Tests to check for any hardware-related issues.

5. System Restore

If the touchpad issue started recently, you might want to consider rolling back to a previous restore point when it was working:

  • Go to Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore.
  • Follow the steps to restore the system to an earlier state.

6. Check for Physical Damage

Sometimes touchpad issues can be related to physical hardware faults, such as:

  • Loose touchpad cable connections inside the laptop.
  • Physical damage to the touchpad. If you're comfortable with it or have a technician, you could inspect the internal connection to make sure everything is secure.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
