I have the same issue with my MacBook Pro. I am using a HDMI cable to displayport (HP ProDisplay P232), but the monitor never sees a signal from my MAC. I ahve tried 3 different brand of cables and checked it out on two HP monitors.
I went to Apple and the genius there told me that HDMI to Displayport cannot work ever. So, why are there cables?
This was very frustrating.... the minidisplayport (thunderbolt) to displayport interface works great. I have a dock and if the HDMI port worked, I could connect my macbook to the doc with only one cable.
