Envy 17 - ae051sa
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Video on the HP Envy 17 is very dull.  Can't seem to get the screen to a comfortable brightness.

Was ok up to recently.

Also notice that the FN and brightness keys have no effect on it.  I can push up brightness via the intel video app, but it only whites it out.

Any suggestions ?

Hey there! @Barry-AcuityIT,

Does the issue persist on the BIOS page?

Try updating the BIOS, chipset and graphics drivers on the PC to the latest version.

Update the BIOS using this link. Click Here

Update the chipset drivers using this link. Click Here

Update the graphics driver using this link. Click Here

Try the steps recommended below.

1. Go into "Control Panel" and then "Power Options".

2. Click the "Change plan settings" link next to whichever plan you are currently using and then click "Change advanced power settings".

3. In this new window click "Display" to open up the listings under it.

4. Now locate and click each of the following..."Display brightness", "Dimmed display brightness" and"Enable adaptive brightness".

5. Change each of these to the settings you wish, then click the "Apply" button and finally the "OK" button.

6. You should be good.

Also, Select Start, choose Settings, then select System > Display. Under Brightness and color, move the Change brightness slider to adjust the brightness. (If the slider isn't there, see the Notes section below.)

Some PCs can let Windows automatically adjust screen brightness based on the current lighting conditions. To find out if your PC supports this, in Display settings, under Brightness and color, look for the Change brightness automatically when lighting changes check box and then select it to use this feature. This automatic setting helps make sure your screen is readable wherever you go. Even if you use it, you can still move the Change brightness slider to fine-tune the brightness level.
Notes:
You might not see the Change brightness slider on desktop PCs that have an external monitor. To change the brightness on an external monitor, use the buttons on it.
If you don't have a desktop PC and the slider doesn't appear or work, try updating the display driver. In the search box on the taskbar, type Device Manager, and then select Device Manager from the list of results. In Device Manager, select Display adapters, then select the display adapter. Press and hold (or right-click) the display adapter name, then select Update driver and follow the instructions.
