Why won't my HP Laptop 14-DQ6xxx recognize my Plugable brand Thunderbolt 4 & USB4 HDMI Display Docking Stations Monitor connections.  It recognizes the usb mouse and keyboard, an external hard drive but NOT video or power!

Hi @FlattrackXta,

I understand your HP Laptop 14-DQ6xxx does not provide video or charging through a Plugable Thunderbolt 4 / USB4 docking station, even though USB devices are detected. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Confirm USB-C port video capability
Most HP Laptop 14-DQ6xxx models have a USB-C port that supports data only.
If DisplayPort Alt Mode is not supported, video output through a dock will not work.

Verify power delivery support on the USB-C port
A data-only USB-C port cannot accept charging power from a docking station.
This explains why the laptop does not charge even though the dock provides power.

Check the system specifications
Review the product specifications or maintenance guide for your exact model.
If USB-C video or Thunderbolt is not listed, the port cannot drive external displays.

Test external display using the HDMI port
Connect the monitor directly to the laptop’s built-in HDMI port.
This confirms the graphics hardware and monitor are working correctly.

Understand Thunderbolt dock behavior
Thunderbolt 4 docks are backward compatible with USB-C for data only.
Without Thunderbolt or DP Alt Mode support on the laptop, video and charging will not function.

Update system and graphics drivers
Install the latest graphics and chipset drivers available for the laptop.
Driver updates can resolve detection issues if the hardware supports video output.

Consider a DisplayLink-based docking solution
DisplayLink docks transmit video over standard USB data using a driver.
This is the only dock type that provides video output on data-only USB-C ports.

I hope this helps.
