HP Notebook - 15-dy0013ds

When I press the power button, the white indicator light comes on, but the screen stays black, flashing white every five to seven seconds. I have tried the hard reset for notebooks that have a fixed battery with no success. I cannot run any type of diagnostic as the screen doesn't work. I have also tried the power on and F11 which results in no change.

Any help would be wonderful.

Hi @bgeldy ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Product. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

The issue you're experiencing with your HP Notebook - 15-dy0013ds, where the screen flashes white on power-up, can be indicative of a hardware problem. Here are a series of steps you can follow to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

1. Perform a Hard Reset

Since you have already tried a hard reset without success, it's good to ensure that it was done correctly. Here’s a quick reminder:

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Disconnect any external devices and unplug the power adapter.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power adapter (but not any external devices yet).
  5. Turn on the laptop.

2. Check the Display

To determine if the issue is with the display itself or something else, try connecting your laptop to an external monitor or TV using an HDMI cable. If the external display works fine, the issue may be with your laptop’s screen or related components.

3. Test the Memory Modules

Faulty or improperly seated memory modules can cause display issues. Here’s how to check:

  1. Turn off the laptop and unplug it.
  2. Open the laptop to access the RAM modules (this may require removing the back cover).
  3. Carefully remove and reinsert the RAM modules, ensuring they are seated properly.
  4. Reassemble the laptop and try powering it on again.

4. BIOS Recovery

Sometimes, a BIOS issue can cause boot problems. HP laptops have a built-in BIOS recovery feature:

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Press and hold the Windows + B keys, and then press and hold the Power button for 2-3 seconds.
  3. Release the Power button but continue to hold the Windows + B keys until the BIOS recovery screen appears (this might take up to 40 seconds).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
